An Official Opinion About the New Core Merino Wool 330 Hoody by Sitka Gear
After spending five days in the backcountry chasing elk, getting rained on, snowed on, being exposed to the sun, hiking in it, sleeping in it, and never taking it off... we officially have an opinion about the new Sitka Gear Core Merino Wool 330 Hoody.
Durability
Let's get straight to it. My primary concern was the durability of the entire Merino Wool line. How would it hold up against pine trees, crawling around while stalking, and wearing a pack? Would there be any abrasion from friction, sticks, or Mother Nature? I'm pleased to report that it looks like new. Not even a single thread tore.
Comfort/Silhouette Retention
Firstly, anything made of merino wool is exceptionally comfortable, and the new Core Merino Wool line is no exception. In fact, I'd say it's even more comfortable because it never lost its silhouette, leaving you feeling like you're wearing a paper bag. The hood never stretched, the wrist cuffs never stretched, the waistband never stretched out, nor did anything on the entire piece.
Scent
As I mentioned, it was cold, wet, and stormy until the last day. I slept in this garment, hiked in this garment, and sweated in this garment, and we still got within 20 yards of over two dozen bulls. I even arrowed an antelope on the way out.
Conclusion
Does the new Sitka Gear Core Merino Wool 330 Hoody make its way into my full-time system? The answer is yes... It performed better than I thought it would, and you always felt clean wearing it. It breathes well, dries quickly, is comfortable, and I quickly grew to appreciate the built-in face mask. I would give it a 10/10 recommendation for working it into your system. I purchased the "colt" tan color and had no issues archery hunting in it.
